About

Mend and make is the culmination of lots of ad hoc mending and making over the years and, space to wonder what I should be doing next and the desire to run some sort of business or social enterprise that encourages and supports connection and creativity.

One of the big issues we face in our (highly digitally connected) societies are feelings of social isolation and loneliness (they’re slightly different things). Another is our wasteful consumerist or “throw away” culture. Before you think, here comes another Luddite rant – it doesn’t. I am interested in the creativity of the ordinary, being able to fix stuff, mend things, make something new from bits no longer in use, or just making something completely new from basic materials. I am also interested in how creative practices “mending” and “making” give opportunity to share experience, knowledge, tools even. To build new friendships and connections, renew old ones. How it can make us feel more human.
